Alex Cheaves, Sr. was born to the late George, Sr. and the late Lucille Cheaves on December 13, 1944, in Palmetto, Florida. He was one of 13 children.

Alex graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. He was employed by CSXRailroad for over 30 years. Alex married Veronica Cheaves (Cummings) and to this union three sons were born. Alex was a member of 11 th Street Church of Christ. Alex was known for his avid sports watching, especially the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Rays.

He was preceded in death by his wife Veronica; Sons, Alex, Jr. and Duane; Parents, George, Sr. and Lucille Cheaves; Sisters, Lula Mae Calhoun, Ciller Hammonds, and Shirley Johnson; Brothers, George Cheaves, Jr. and Jackson Cheaves.

Alex is survived by his son Reginal Cheaves (Janice); Grandchildren, Chris Brown (Eureka), Samantha Ruffing, Tosh Cheaves, Damon Cheaves, Dashaun Cheaves, Reginal Cheaves, Jr; Great Grandchild, Nas Ruffing; Brothers, Thaddeus Cheaves, Sr. (Tiki), Richard Cheaves, Sr. (Mattie), Willie Cheaves, Sr. and Michael Cheaves, Sr.; Sisters Iona Gavin and Betty Al-Ghani (Karim); Brothers-in-law Johnnie Cummings, Jr. (Ammie) and Theodore Cummings (Alecia). A host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
