Life
Bennie Lee Hart Reed was born on February 11, 1933, in Monticello, Florida, to the late Austin Hart, Sr. and DilsiaJohnson Hart. She peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday morning, November 14, 2025.
At a young age, Bennie relocated to Bradenton, Florida, where she later united in marriage with the late John C. Reed, Sr. Determined to further her education, she attended night school in Bradenton and earned her GED, a milestone she was very proud of.
A driven and hardworking woman, Mrs. Reed became a successful entrepreneur, operating a thriving house-cleaning business for many years. Her clients admired her diligence, thoroughness, and the kindness she extended to everyone she served.
Bennie was a devoted, faithful member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, where she served joyfully on the Usher Board for 25 years. She was also active in the Bradenton Women’s Club, where she contributed to some of the community’s most cherished teas and social gatherings.
Known throughout the family as the beloved hostess and “gatherer of hearts,” her home was the center of countless celebrations—holiday dinners, backyard reunions, and loving chaos shared between her and her three sisters: Min, Tut, and Cora. Together, they raised their families within a close three-mile radius, building a legacy of unity, love, and togetherness. Those were treasured days—simple times filled with laughter, shared meals, and strong family bonds.
Bennie’s natural gifts included being an exceptional cook—famous for her cookies, cakes, bread pudding, and peach cobbler. She enjoyed sewing, reupholstering furniture, and traveling whenever she could. A true lover of life, she could always be convinced to enjoy a meal at Red Lobster.
