Betty Ann Louis Huggins Obituary

Betty Ann Louis Huggins was born on June 24, 1938, in Greenville, Georgia to the late Willie and Ollie Birts. She was the youngest of eleven children. Nine siblings preceded her in death, leaving one surviving sister, Mary Kilpatrick. After leaving Okeechobee, Florida, in 1968, Betty relocated to Bradenton, Florida, where she married the late John Lee Huggins. She was employed at Tropicana, where she worked faithfully for 34 years before retiring.

Betty was a devoted member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and a woman of unwavering Christian faith. She served as one of the original members of the Ladies Elite Club, a service club in the community that helped the Manatee County youth. She served as president. She was well known throughout her community as “Mrs. Huggins,” “Queen B,” and as the beautiful lady who was always dressed impeccably —matching from head to toe. Genuine by nature, she was the rock of her family and a steady presence in the lives of those she loved.

On February 8, Betty answered her heavenly call and went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her loving children: Gwen (Tommy) Johnson, Alvin Louis, Todd (Annette) Louis, Vince (Lunetha) Louis, Avis (Mike) Lewis, Arthur Huggins, Sr, Craig (Sabrina) Huggins, and; her stepdaughters, Carrie Ann (Eddie) Green and Melba Huggins; her sister-in-law, Hattie Birts; her godsister, Algie (Willie) Cope; her goddaughter, Carmen Shorey; her godson, James Barnes; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her children Phyllis Louis, Willie Jr. Louis, and Derrick Louis.
