Sister Callie Mae Rentz Vegas was born on October 15, 1941, in Live Oak, Florida, to the late Harry and Bessie Rentz.
At an early age, Callie moved with her family to Bradenton, Florida, in 1953. She received her education through the Manatee County School System and began a long and dedicated career with the Manatee Fruit Company, where she worked faithfully for approximately 45 years until her retirement. Callie had a special love for plants, with the calla lilly being her favorite.
Callie accepted Christ in the early 1960’s and became a devoted member of Ward Temple A.M.E. Church. Throughout her years of service, she held several meaningful roles, including Church School Superintendent and the President of the Adult Usher Board. Shewas a faithful member of the George Frierson Lay Organization, the Corrie Bolden/Temple Brown Missionary Society and Trustee.
Callie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She answered the Master’s call to rest from her labor on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 7:45 p.m.
Sister Vegas was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bessie Rentz; her sisters, Betty Rentz Lopez and Carolyn Hatcher; her brothers, Ordell “Brick” Rentz and Harry Rentz, Jr.; and her son, Johnny Vegas, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories one sister, Margaret Rentz; three daughters, Barbara Marshall (Joe), Lucretia Brooks (Herbert), and Deborah Brinson (Dwayne); a bonus daughter, Deana White; four sons, Samuel Vegas (Vicky), Willie Vegas (Junette), Angelo Vegas, and Joseph Vegas; 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Callie also leaves to cherish her memories to her dear friends, Ruby Haisley, Jan Smith, Alma Lucas, Sylvia Archie, Rev.Althea Winston, and Twynette Fonville.
