Dora Jean Anderson Mays

Dora Jean Anderson Mays, 76, of Palmetto, FL, died December 29, 2023, at Manatee Memorial Hospital. She was born September 6, 1947, in Elba, Alabama.  She attended and graduated from Alabama A&M University.  She married Kenneth Mays on July 16, 1976; two beautiful children, Michelle and Carol, made their union perfect. She worked as an Educator in the Manatee County School System for 36 years. 

She was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority since 1968. She leaves to mourn her passing: Michelle Dumas (Jarrod Dumas); Carol Mays-Davis(Reggie Davis);  Stepson Kenneth K. Mays;  7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and many other loving family members and friends. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., Friday, January 5, 2024.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, 11:00 A.M. Both events will be held at St. John First Baptist Institutional Church, 1108 29th Street East, Palmetto, FL.
