Maxine Jones-Murray was born on August
12, 1939, to the late Lonnie Jones, Sr., and Johnnie-Mae Jones
in Donalsonville, Georgia.
Maxine was raised in Sarasota, Florida, where she attended
Booker High School. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member
at Greater Hurst Chapel and at that time she was in the choir.
Maxine later relocated to Palmetto, Florida, where she raised
her children with their father, Stonewall Murray, Sr., and then
became a member at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Maxine worked many years at the School Board of Manatee
County and also retired from Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Maxine was a devoted mother of six children; 21 grandchildren;
and a host of great-grandchildren. Maxine was well known
for her outgoing spirit. She loved and supported anyone she
encountered. She loved to make others laugh and her smile
brightened any room she walked in.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie Jones, Sr.,
and Johnnie-Mae Jones; sister, Charity Miller (Eddie); brothers,
Lonnie Jones, Jr., and Harold Jones (Brenda); last but not least,
her son, Willie Murray, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: children, Richard
Campbell, Jr. (Wanda), Arlene Smith (Keith), Timothy Murray
(Maria), Katherine McCoy (Carey), Stonewall Murray, Jr.
(Rita); siblings, Ralph Rambo (Janie), Annie Mae-Gholar
(Johnny), Ruth Watson (Curtis), Clementine Speight (John);
grandchildren, Sharelle, Tavares, Nigel (Katarsha), Keith Jr.,
Gary, Reggie, Aisha (Davaul), Brion, Andrea, Levonta (Sade), Million,
Sharod, Katelyn, Takindra, Keinna, Ricky, Cathy, Davon,
Andrew, Anthony, and Kisha (David). Maxine also leaves
behind a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-
grandchildren that she loved dearly; special sons, Stacey,
Tony, Paul (Snake), John, and Prince; and special friends, Ruby
Fobbs and Betty Sailes-Rhodes.
