Rosemary Simpson-Mosely Obituary

Rosemary Simpson Mosely completed her earthly assignment and returned home to God on Friday, April 17, 2026. She lived with a strength that can only be described as supernaturally supported through more than twenty years of fighting, enduring, and rising again with grace.

She was a woman of deep faith, quiet power, and steady love. Her life was a testimony that resilience is holy, that joy is a choice, and that even in suffering, God is near. She carried her family, her community, and her story with dignity.

Even in her hardest seasons, as her body grew tired, her spirit remained strong. She heard the voices of those she loved—both here and beyond—and she rested knowing she had given this world everything she had.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her presence filled every room with warmth, and her gift for making others feel seen and cared for was one of her greatest strengths. She loved her family deeply, and her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely.

Her identity as a proud member of the Class of 1971 was woven into the fabric of her life. She cherished her classmates, celebrated their milestones, and held their shared history close to her heart. That community was family to her.

Education was important to her, and she continued her studies at Florida Memorial College, where she formed lasting friendships and deepened the foundation that shaped her personal and professional life.

For 27 years, she served the Manatee County School District in the Migrant Education Program, shaping, developing, and preparing young minds for bright futures. Her work with “little people,” as she lovingly called them, was more than a job—it was a calling. She poured patience, encouragement, and hope into every child she encountered.

She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unwavering love. Her children, grandchildren, and all who were shaped by her life will continue to walk in the strength she modeled.

She loved people well, and one of her favorite ways to show that love was through baking and cooking. It was her ministry, her joy, and her way of blessing others.

Her walk with God was evident in the way she lived, loved, and served. As a lifelong member of Turner Chapel AME Church, she found joy in lifting her voice in the choir and greeting God’s people on the usher board. Her service was not just duty—it was worship.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Simpson, Sr. and Frances Early Simpson; brothers Johnny Simpson, Jr., James Zack Simpson, David Lee Simpson, and Leon Simpson; and sisters Mary A. Simpson-Strong, Johnnie Mae McPherson, and Lillie B. Yarn.

She is survived by her children: Alexdrena “Drena” Green, Ramese“Mese” Dixon, and Yolanda “Yolly” Dixon; grandchildren: Alexis Henri, Ty’Asia Sumpter, Tavon Poag, and T’Zaria Poag; greatgrandchildren: Talik SumpterHicks, Taliyah Hicks, Michael Kent, Jr., McKinley Kent, Tariya Poag, Antonio Edwards, Tayonna Poag, and Lennox Poag; sister Carolyn Moore; sistersinlaw Carolyn Simpson, Matilda Simpson, and Patricia Simpson; and godchildren Whitney Duval and Tavia Shateen, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
