Deacon Ruben Frank Harris was born on June 14, 1935, in Louvale, Georgia, to the late George and Ella Harris. He was the thirteenth of fifteen children and was educated in the Stewart County public school system.
In 1957, Ruben moved to Palmetto, Florida, where he established himself as a skilled and trusted auto mechanic. As the proud owner of his own repair shop, Ruben was known for his expertise and work ethic. Upon retiring from the automotive industry, he continued serving his community by starting a lawn care business, which he maintained until illness no longer permitted.
Ruben gave his life to Christ as an adult and became a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church of Palmetto under the leadership of the late Reverend Alex Harper, Sr., Radford Harper, and Pastor Sirrnest T. Webster. He served faithfully as a Deacon, offering his time and heart to the ministry.
Ruben enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—watching westerns, playing checkers, and listening to the blues, especially Bobby “Blue” Bland and B.B. King, as well as gospel music that stirred his soul. Most of all, he loved his family and treasured time spent together.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Julia Ridley and Janet F. Harris; siblings, Jeanette, Lillie Mae, Angie Mae, Izella, Lorraine, Doris, Mary, Tommy Lee, Wes, Grim, and Ben; and grandchildren, Masur and Ruben Harris.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory:
Daughters: Johnnie (James) Morton, Ruby D. Harris, Sharon Hopkins, Sharon Robinson, Kiera (Shane) Richardson, Tammy Belvin
Bonus Daughter: Natasha (Earl) Riggins
Sons: Ruben Harris, Jr., Charles Hill, Tyron (Shaphon) Harris
Bonus Son: Michael (Deborah) McClendon
Brothers: Jessie Harris, Abbie (Playthues) Harris
Sister: Sarah Hall
Special Friends: Alida Coby and Joyce Randall
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
His love, wisdom, and unwavering faith will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
