Sara Carter was born on July 18, 1931, in Americus, GA, to the late Jesse Carter and Lucille Burkes. She attended school at Stanley High in Americus, GA. She attended church from an early age, and she was a strong believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She later moved to Palmetto, FL, as an adult. Her working career consisted of kitchen and household domestic work. In her later years, she worked as a nurse’s aide in local rehabilitation homes. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommie Fuller and Charlie Powell, Jr.; and children, Lillian “Penny” Carter, Jeffrey Gavin, Paul Carter, Brenda Reaves, and Clinton Davis.
She leaves loving memories to her children, Pamela Davis, Jake (Kathy) Moss, Subrina (Greg) Newsome, Charles Gavin, Jr., Phyllis Welcome, Carl Hayes, and Rotunda Hayes; granddaughters, Kim (Chris) Ogletree, Michele Davis, Elaine Davis, Tiara (Aalon) Baptiste, Ashley Hodges, Jessica (Joseph) Cummings, Shanice (Sadrack) Philistin, Kayla Hayes, Janet Williams, Karla Hayes, and Jasmine Hayes; grandsons, Broderick Reaves, Marcus Reaves, Reverend Eric Reaves, Jakey (Lexi) Moss, Jermaine Moss, Jaron (Vicki) Moss, Antwonne (Kenya) Newsome, Brian Newsome, Cedanio (Susan) Bacon, Brent Bacon, Robert (Channing) Hodges, Jeremy Carter, Carl Hayes, Jr., and Carl E. Hayes; 45 great-grandchildren, nine great- great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Tisher Carter; son-in-law, Clarence Reaves; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
