Shirley Ann Nelson

Shirley Ann Nelson, born on August 6, 1956, in North Hampton County, Virginia, passed away, leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. A graduate of Lincoln Memorial High School in Palmetto, Florida, Shirley dedicated her life to serving her community, touching countless lives through her work throughout Manatee county.

Shirley’s life was a vibrant celebration of her passions and her love for those around her. Known for her unique style, she had an eye for fashion, a love for fishing, and was an avid pool player who could light up any gathering. Her warm spirit and joyful presence made her a beloved friend, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin “CW” Williams-Nelson II and Lessie Ruth Blackmon; her sisters Brenda Brown, Joy Bell Carter, Gwen, and her brother Lester Carter. Shirley leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories for her children: Yolanda Sims, Liteal Martin, Chadrick Hunter, and Wallace Williams Jr. She was a devoted grandmother to fifteen grandchildren: Ronald Thomas Jr., Raymond Benbow, Octavious James, Tyeski James, Jordan Sims, Armani Hunter, Azaria Martin, Jayden Hunter, Skyler Williams, Cayden Hunter, Wallace Williams Jr., Charles Martin Jr., Jeremiah Thomas, Cameron Hunter, and Kingston Williams. Her love extended to six great-grandchildren: Josiah Thomas, Lyrica Thomas, Khaleysi Thomas, Jordan Sims Jr., Analeah Sims, and Oliver James Jr., who will all carry forward her spirit.

Shirley is also survived by her loving siblings: sisters Diane Rozier, Debra Gillis, Sandra Kaye, Paulette Blackmon-Huewitt, and Lisa Carter; and brothers Calvin Nelson, Michael Nelson, Tony Nelson, Alonzo “Chucky” Nelson, and Antonio Nelson. She will forever be remembered for her free-spirited, caring, and nurturing personality.

Shirley Ann Nelson leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and warmth. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy.
