Shirley Marie Rumph, a woman whose very presence radiated love and strength, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Born on September 29, 1960, in Bradenton, Florida, to the late OK Henry and Rebecca Johnson, Shirley's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of family, unwavering dedication, and boundless joy.
A proud graduate of Manatee High School (1979) and a former student of Manatee Junior College, Shirley poured 30 years of her heart and soul into Manatee Memorial Hospital, where she served as the Radiology Department Supervisor. Her commitment to her work was more than a job; it was a calling, and her impact on the hospital community and those she worked alongside was profound and lasting.
Shirley's greatest joy, her true north, was her family. For 45 years, she was the devoted wife of Marion Rumph Jr. Their love story was one of partnership, laughter, and a deep, abiding connection. She was the cherished mother of Nichole Williams (Lou), Shavonna Rumph, and Marion Rumph III (Nia), and a doting grandmother who showered Brittany (Breanna), Johnathan, Travon, Eearolyn, Zakedrie, Javon, Michael, Alanti, Ava, Emery, Madison, and Marion IV "Drew" with unconditional love. She also leaves behind a great-grandchild Genesis with the anticipation of two more great-grandchildren. Her love for her family was a radiant force, and she treasured every moment shared.
A true Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, Shirley's enthusiasm was contagious. Game days echoed with her spirited cheers of "Go Bucs!" But her passions extended beyond the football field. She loved to travel, especially embarking on road trips to visit family, creating a treasure trove of memories that will be cherished for generations to come. Family vacations were sacred to her, opportunities to strengthen bonds and create lasting joy.
Shirley was a loving sister to Yvonne Daniels, Larry Taylor, Kenneth Taylor, Rhonda Taylor, Mark Henry, Willie Henry, Louise Henry, Otis Henry, JC Henry, Theresa Henry, KC Henry, Linda Henry, Dorecia Henry, OK Henry Jr., Calisa Henry, Lorisa Henry (deceased), Ferlandaye Henry, Margelisa Henry, Tellassavalas Henry, and Gloralisa Henry. She was also a dear daughter-in-law to Marion Rumph Sr. (deceased) and Laura Mae Rumph, a beloved sister-in-law to Frances Dunbar (Kenneth Sr.), Larry Rumph (Gladys - deceased), Shirley Benton (Don), Rubin Rumph (Rosa), Harry Rumph, Jackie Rumph, and Robert Rumph Sr. (Debra), and a treasured mother figure to Kashanti Bowden and Latisha Marc. She leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, other loving family, and friends who will forever feel the absence of her warm embrace.
Shirley's legacy is a testament to the power of love, the importance of kindness, and the strength of unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. Her memory will be a beacon of light, forever cherished, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
John 14:27 – I am leaving with you a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
