Thelma Barton Thomas was born to the late John Barton Sr. and Agnes Mae Hill on July 30, 1941, in Fairfield, Florida. She attended and received her education at Lincoln Memorial High School in Palmetto, Florida. She later moved to Evanston, Illinois where she worked for many years before retiring at The Avon Company.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elijah Thomas, of many years of faithful and unwavering love. Additionally, she is preceded by her sisters: Agnes Barton-Brooks, Millie Barton-Ross, Charity Barton-Jackson, Naomi Barton-Brown, and Diana Barton-Green. Brothers: John Barton, Jr., and Jake Barton.
She was a devoted wife, sister, and loyal friend loved and cherished by all she encountered. Affectionately known as, Slim/Stick/Tic, she was a powerful and caring soul. Small in stature, yet she was profound in character, never met a stranger, and always exuding joy.

She departed this life, but not our hearts on December 29, 2024. She leaves to cherish her memory: Sisters - Rosa Smith, Palmetto, Florida, Rutha (Webster) Hayes, Rubonia, Florida, and Mary Barton, Rubonia, Florida. Brothers - Dec. Harold (Mildred) Barton, Palmetto, Florida, Simpson (Debra) Barton, Palmetto, Florida, Darvin Barton, Bradenton, Florida, and Willie L. Barton, Rubonia, Florida. Uncle - William Barton, Boynton Beach, Florida. Sister-in-law - Doris Thomas, Brother-in-law - Eddie Green. Goddaughters - Cynthia Sumpter, Toni Lawrence, and Ashley Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
